  • The people of Sulu who went to Sabah represent the people who took matters unto their hands because the government failed to act on their behalf to protect their claim in Sabah. What the government of Malaysia is paying to the Sultanate of Sulu is a pittance compared to its current value. What is $1,300 for the Malaysian government that continues to benefit from their occupation of the Sabah territory? Their action is the consequence of over a hundred years of neglect. The Philippine government has the duty to protect its own people, in this case, the Sultanate of Sulu on the integrity of their sovereign right in Sabah. This has happened before even among the farmers in our own country. Why do we have farmers occupying the lands that they till for decades starting from their ancestors?
